International Education

International Students

Dannevirke High School has been home to international students since 1990.  Students from Asian, Pacific Countries and European countries are welcome at our school. We have a Co-ordinator of International Education, who works with a management team, to assist the students, to settle in and we provide ESOL lessons (English as a Second Language).  International students are well represented in sports teams, cultural groups and all other spheres of school life. Currently we have students from China, Japan,

International Students are also encouraged to participate in school or community sporting and cultural activities wherever possible.

Homestay Accommodation

Dannevirke High School offers a well-run Homestay Programme for International Students enrolled at our school.  This Programme is run in accordance with the requirements of the Code of Practice for the Pastoral Care of International Students.  This includes quality homes, homestay hosts all being cleared through a police vetting procedure and superior pastoral care.

Students are encouraged to regard themselves as part of the host’s family.  Every effort is made to include the homestay students in family activities.  Our emphasis is on students extending their English language in a supportive family environment and learning as much as possible about New Zealand and New Zealanders.

Host families take a great interest and pride in their students and will do all they can to assist their international students achieve to their best potential.

Homestay families and students are well supported by the Dannevirke High School Co-ordinator of International Education and regular formal and informal contact is a part of this support structure.
