Accommodation

When you come to New Zealand, you do not just learn English and other academic subjects; you learn the culture and way of life as well.  A homestay can help you with that.  You also gain confidence of speaking English easier and faster.

You will be well-supported in your homestay experience by caring, dedicated, homestay families.

The emphasis is on the fact that this is a family experience - not a hotel and you are expected to join in family meals, special occasions and excursions where possible.

Janet Francis (Board of Trustees)
The International Education Committee hold weekly meetings which I attend as a Board of Trustee member.  The meeting cover a wide range of matters concerning our International students.  I am impressed with the dedication shown to the students by the committee.

During school holidays trips (either day or overnight) are arranged for the students.  I have been fortunate to have gone on some of these trips which have been most enjoyable.  During the year the students and their homestay families get together for an evening meal or some other activity.  Since the hostel closed the students board privately.  I have noticed that because of this they appear to integrate with all the other students more readily.

Non (Student)
My homestay are very friendly people, also they are the best cooks!!

Jackie (Student)
I have a lovely homestay family.  They teach me a lot.  They are my second parents!!

Rosemary (Host Parent)
Our experience with homestay students has definitely been a win/win situation.  Apart from a financial consideration there is the pleasure of great company and many interesting conversations, learning of others culture and the differences between our New Zealand style and others viewpoints.  It has been a great pleasure for us learning to care for the students as well as caring about each individual one.  We would recommend this experience to other families.

Phobe (Student)
I love my host parents, I enjoy the time being with them.  It is my second home, no doubt about it!

Mizuki (Student)
I'm very happy with my homestay family.

Mary (Host Parent)
I am hosting a 19 year-old young man who is in Year 12.  My husband and I are thoroughly enjoying the experience of having a 'son' again.  We treat him as we would our own family by getting involved with his sports and academic life, and we expect him to fit in with us.  An experience I would recommend to others.
