Welcome to Dannevirke High School
We are a medium sized school for boys and girls in the lower part of New Zealand’s North Island. We are located in the very heart of all the beautiful countryside that New Zealand is so famous for. Our students are able to gain an excellent education as well as enjoy the farms, forests and natural wonderland that surround our school and our town.
We have an excellent range of courses and options available. Our experienced, expert staff will ensure that students can gain the most from their course of study, with extra classes for those students with special needs.

Anna Garnett – Head Girl
‘Dannevirke High School is a place where there is a very positive environment and where students have a real sense of pride.
I have a great pride in my school and I am honoured to be given the opportunity to represent Dannevirke High School in such a way. We encourage all students and staff to come together as one ‘Whãnau’. We hold high expectations to ensure that we provide everyone with a positive and safe schooling environment’.
Ben Galloway – Head Boy
‘Dannevirke High School has a great group of students who all embrace the ‘Whãnau’ programme and all opportunities available. Academically, pupils succeed with the help of excellent teachers and a good programme. The facilities such as The Mead Centre and the Technology Blocks, as well as plenty of new classrooms, means that the school is ‘new’ and looking good. The Senior Leadership Team works hard to ensure students have plenty of opportunities available to them.
The Maori culture is prominent at school with a good Kapa Haka team. Inter-house Sports are competitive and a great atmosphere occurs around them. All Sports have supportive Advisory Boards that do their best for everyone within the code.
Dannevirke High School is one big Whãnau’.
Saskia Alexander – Deputy Head Girl
‘I enjoy coming to school each day, knowing I have the opportunity to be a role model.
We get many opportunities to develop our learning and education as well as sporting and cultural abilities. Our school ‘Whãnau’ hold very positive relationships between not only students but staff and others within our community’.
Ezra McDonald – Deputy Head Boy
‘I enjoy a leadership role at Dannevirke High School. The focus on achievement pushes me to succeed and a focus on a ‘Whãnau’ environment helps me excel in all aspects of my education’.
