Dannevirke High School has a School Council which gives many students the opportunity to contribute to aspects of life and organisation of the school. The Council has representatives from all year levels as members.

The Council is responsible for the disbursement of money it raises each year through mufti days and other student organised events. The Council has a number of sub-committees; Environment, Social, Sport, Recreation, Welfare, and Students Against Drink Driving.
