Dannevirke High School is a co-educational secondary kura nestled beneath the Ruahine Ranges, serving as a hub within the wider Tararua District. We aim to inspire every learner to realise their academic, physical, cultural and social potential. Through rich classroom experiences, dynamic sporting and cultural involvement, opportunities to learn within and outside the classroom, we encourage students to discover their strengths and foster their passions. Our kaupapa of respect, responsibility and resilience guides daily life and the DHS Way, nurturing an inclusive learning environment.
Students are encouraged to pursue excellence, sustaining self-worth and cultivating empathy and manaakitanga. At Dannevirke High School our goal is for rangatahi to leave us as engaged, confident, actively involved, life-long learners. From Year 9 to Year 13, pathways span university preparation, vocational training and gateway experiences connecting classroom learning to careers. Supported by devoted kaiako, whānau and community partners, Dannevirke High School graduates step forward equipped to contribute meaningfully to Aotearoa and the wider world.

Respect - for self, others, the school environment and wider community.
Responsibility - for self, others, the school environment, learning, behaviour and achievement.
Resilience - to push through, overcome and bounce back from challenging and difficult learning and life situations.
The victor's palm, but not without the dust of the arena
We have an excellent range of courses and options available and where these do not fit a particular student, we access courses through UCOL and Gateway as well as Correspondence options. Our experienced staff will ensure that students can gain the most from their courses of study, with extra support given to those who need it.
Student Leadership, Values Education, Character Education as well as Citizenship Education is targeted through our Whānau system and a comprehensive Pastoral Care system. Horizontal Whānau Groups, a well-supported Dean Support structure as well as a large group forming our SADD committee ensure a supportive and caring environment. Dannevirke High School is a safe, healthy and happy school.
