Gateway is designed to provide students with work-ready skills. Once the student is matched with a placement in their chosen career interest an interview is organised between the Gateway Co-ordinator, the Workplace, and the Student to discuss the Gateway process and the position available. If all parties are interested in pursuing the arrangement, we then talk through the Gateway Handbook and sign agreements (parents included). The student generally works one day per week (hours to be arranged) for a term agreed upon by the employer, we prefer a minimum of 10 weeks and can extend to a full school year. Equipment needed will be supplied by Gateway. The student must gain 20 credits as part of the Gateway terms and funding and will usually get these through courses that relate to their employment or through work ready courses that we run through the school.
(STAR) The Secondary-Tertiary Alignment Resource funding, helps to support students transitioning to further education, training, or employment. We utilise this fund to individualise meaningful learning experiences for our students, so they are prepared for their future.
Work Ready Skills is designed to help our students attain their academic goals by completing learning opportunities while accumulating credits. It also gives students an opportunity to catch up on their studies from other learning areas. Students work on individual Unit Standards over a three-week period. Within this time, it is expected that all work for the standard is completed ready for marking. Work Ready Skills teachers provide support throughout this time.
