We offer the following courses:
Focus on Improvisation games in this course to introduce students to the concept of Play to teach drama techniques and conventions.
Improvisation – Role Plays, Character Work, Building confidence and team work
Monologues short scene.
Reading and using play scripts to prepare short scenes.
Researching Drama Periods.
Using Drama Technologies – eg simple lighting, sound, makeup tasks.
Small group performances.
Improvisation games and activities – to continue building on the techniques and conventions of drama used in Year 9.
Writing and performing monologues
Using Play Scripts to create scenes and perform in groups.
Analysing a selected drama period or work eg NZ playwrights and plays, Loser by Thomas Sainsbury.
Drama Research topics eg NZ Theatre. Musical Theatre.
Using and applying Drama Technologies eg costuming, special effects, crewing.
Group/Class performances.
Possible Standard Topics are:
Exploring and Explaining the function of Theatre Aotearoa – focus is on NZ Plays and Playwrights eg Purapurawhetu by Briar Grace-Smith
Use creative (devise) strategies to create a drama – students’ writing their own plays
Perform a role in a drama for an audience – class focused performance.
Respond to a drama performance – written response to a student-focused or viewed performance.
Technology Event and Entertainment Standards eg assist in a production role, apply knowledge of electronic media.
External Examinations are offered in this course.

Our Department is about offering musical experiences and knowledge to students who walk through our doors to develop their musical talents and capabilities.
We offer the following courses:
An introduction to the language of music and elementary knowledge of score reading and aural listening activities.
Exploring students’ musical journeys/mihis
Creative music think-tank activities with directed research topics.
Writing simple composition rhythms/songs.
Lessons offered on the piano, guitar and singing through weekly Itinerant music lessons.
In-class use of the ukelele, guitars, keyboards and percussion instruments.
Students choose an instrument/s of choice to focus on for practical lessons, supported through weekly Itinerant music teaching. Lessons offered on the piano, guitar and singing.

Music Technology – basic use of applications.

Big focus on Performance Music on student instrument of choice, Solo and Group performances. Supported by Itinerant Music lessons. Performance at this level is to audiences wider than the classroom plus students must choose 2 different platforms on which to perform.

Identifying musical elements and features reading Musical Scores and Aural Listening representations at Grade 5 level.
Analysis of selected major Music Works eg Les Miserable, Handel’s Messiah.
Composition choices for songs and/or ensemble pieces.
Music Research Topic of student interest – specific focusses.
Standards for the development of new Maori music – Influences and Factors that impacted on new maori music. A fusion of traditional and contemporary music.
Operating Music Technology applications at this level.
