Interhouse has been running for many years at Dannevirke High School. The houses Grant, Paulsen, MacDonald and Simmers have a long history. Interhouse is a great opportunity for our students to get involved in extracurricular activities within the kura environment. This is very popular with over 100 students participating in most of the events. Students are able to interact with other peers and staff members in an environment outside of the classroom.
Interhouse has a range of events which include: Swimming Sports, Athletics Day, Cross Country, Tug of War (Brawn), Netball, Basketball, Quiz (Brains), Football, Volleyball, DHS way, Waiata, Ki o rahi, Capture the flag, Chess and Touch.
The students take ownership of these competitions by helping set up on the day, umpiring/referring, running the events, timing and scoring. This is a space where house captains can organise their teams and interact with their house members.
Interhouse activities usually take place on a Friday afternoon during lunchtime and period 5. Prior to most events we have a Year 13 vs Staff game to have some fun. Students and staff compete for a shield which is then awarded in front of the student body.
Interhouse is a positive environment and a great way for the students to display their talent and skills. At the end of an event the winning house receives a trophy and banner which is displayed in the back of the hall. At the end of the year the winning house is awarded with a trophy at the sports prizegiving.
