We are very proud and grateful for our welcoming, spacious library at the heart our school.
Role of the Library
Our school library is an important and well-resourced facility for the use of both students and staff. Our school library supports learning across all subjects by providing access to a wide range of books from fiction to non-fiction texts. We aim to foster a love of reading by promoting engaging fiction, non-fiction and student-led recommendations. The library is a safe and welcoming space where students can read, study, collaborate or seek support with their learning.
Opening hours:
Monday to Friday 9 am – 3.30pm
We are open at interval and lunchtime every day.
Staff:
Liz Cavenagh: Library Manager and IT Computer Technician
Cecilia Buter: Head Librarian
Vicky Jackson: Teacher in Charge of Library
Students volunteer as a library committee to support library staff and students. Giving them an opportunity to grow confidences and skills in this space.
Our library offers a wide range of services to support both academic and recreational needs. Students have access to self-service printing, scanning, and photocopying, as well as IT help and support when needed. There is also the availability of a laminator and we have the capacity to bind learning materials if needed but this may come at a cost. We aim for the library to be an inclusive, supervised and social space where ākonga can read, study or collaborate with others.
We promote recreational reading through a well-curated collection of fiction, non-fiction, magazines and graphic novels which is regularly added to and students' recommendations and requests are appreciated and valued. Weekly assemblies provide opportunities for staff and students to share book reviews and recommendations, helping to highlight new and popular titles available in the library.
The library also functions as a flexible teaching space, frequently used by teachers and external trainers for lessons or workshops that require print and digital resources. It is equipped with a television, Chromecast and an HDMI adapters, making it suitable for presentations and interactive learning. In addition, the library is a key location for in-school professional development and serves as the independent study hub for our Year 13 students. University prospectuses and tertiary programme information are also available to support future pathway planning.
Our team of Student Librarians plays an active role in the day-to-day running of the library. They assist with circulating resources, keeping the shelves organised, and preparing items to be catalogued and made shelf ready. They also help create displays and are always happy to talk about books, magazines, and movies or help with information queries.
Our local public library offers eBooks and audiobooks free of charge to all members.

We welcome all members of our school whānau into the library — it is a calm, inclusive space for reading, researching or relaxing quietly during interval and lunchtime.
