Being able to visit Eitoku High in Japan was an amazing experience this year. As a teacher deeply passionate about Japanese culture, I had a great time experiencing Japan firsthand. Although my Japanese language skills are still at a basic level, we had a great time interacting with the friendly and welcoming students and staff of Eitoku High as they improved their English while learning more about us and our home country. I believe that immersive experiences such as this exchange trip are invaluable for the students of both high schools, for the exchange of culture, language, and personal connection.
As an educator, I am particularly interested in exploring the Japanese educational system and methodologies. This visit provided us with unique insights into the similarities and differences in our school communities. Moreover, It gave us the chance to foster connections with Japanese educators and students that we never could have achieved while staying at home, promoting cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.
As we shared our experiences with our school community upon my return the enthusiasm of the students and myself has inspired many others. There has been a lot of interest from other students who are keen to embark on the next trip.
After a six-year break due to covid, it has been so rewarding to renew this enriching exchange trip and contributing to the success of our school's cultural exchange initiatives.
